About the Reproductive Immunology Group

Our research primarily is aimed at understanding in healthy pregnancy how the pregnant woman immunologically tolerates her baby, and what mechanisms account for complications to occur in aberrant pregnancy.

The work is oriented on three features:

  1. Healthy, naturally conceived pregnancy
  2. Women with recurrent miscarriages
  3. Oocyte donation pregnancy

There is strong collaboration between the Dept of Immunology and Dept of Obstetrics and Gynecology. Dr. Marie-Louise van der Hoorn is fetal-maternal-medicine specialist in the LUMC. She is combining clinical work with translational research. Dr. van der Hoorn is a (co)principal investigator in many projects and, with Dr. Michael Eikmans, is enthusiastically guiding young researchers in conducting scientific research.
