Research technician

As a research technician in the group of Frank Staal, I contribute to the development of a gene therapy for Diamond-Blackfan anemia and support the clinical SCID-RAG1 gene therapy trial. Within the DBA project, I mainly focus on viral production, testing, and transduction of hematopoietic stem cells (HSC), as well as developing a method to measure HSC proliferation and differentiation toward red blood cell lineages using flow cytometry. For the SCID project, I assist with gene therapy aimed at correcting the disease-causing mutation and support follow-up testing of lymphocyte development in patients. I am proud to contribute to this team’s ongoing efforts to translate research into treatments for patients.
I obtained my BSc in Biology and Medical Laboratory Research at the Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences, with a specialization in molecular biology. Through my internship at the Erasmus MC and lab-based courses, I gained practical experience with various laboratory techniques. I am driven by curiosity to broaden my knowledge and enjoy learning new techniques to support meaningful research.
