Prof. Dr. Peter van den Elsen is an immunopathologist known for his contributions to T-cell biology and his dedication to academic teaching. During his postdoctoral research in Boston and positions at Leiden University and VU Amsterdam, he worked as a molecular biologists on expression of MHC and its regulation including epigenetic factors. He published in leading journals such as Nature. As coordinator of the Honours College track in Medicine at LUMC, he inspired students with his creative teaching style, famously using tennis balls to explain DNA. Since his retirement in 2018, he remains fondly remembered for his commitment to student engagement and excellence in education.
