Career Overview

Prof. Anneke Brand was a pioneering hematologist and transfusion medicine expert, known for her groundbreaking research on the immunological effects of blood transfusion. As the first Professor of Transfusion Medicine in Leiden, she co-founded the cord blood bank in 1994 and published over 350 scientific papers. She held key roles in international transfusion societies and received prestigious awards, including the ISBT Presidential Award. Even after her retirement, she remained active in scientific advisory work until her sudden passing in 2021, leaving a lasting legacy in both research and patient care.
