The retreat was opened by the Head of Department, Prof. Jannie Borst, who gave an insightful perspective on the past, present and future of the department. During the course of the retreat, eight representatives of the individual research groups in the department shared their latest findings. The Presentation Award was awarded to Floortje van Haften (Group Arens) for her excellent presentation on the impact of cell cycle inhibition on CD8+ T cell responses. In addition, two aspiring group leaders provided an overview of the research lines they aim to establish in the department. In the afternoon, we had a lively Poster Session, during which poster presenters had the opportunity to share and discuss their research. Following up on last year’s success, posters were visited by small groups of fellow researchers during poster walks. Douwe Bosma (Group Borst) and Felicia Spitzer (Group Ossendorp) were awarded prices for the best posters.
We also welcomed two guest speakers from other research institutes: Dr. Daniela Thommen (Netherlands Cancer Institute) and Prof. Yvette van Kooyk (Amsterdam UMC). We greatly enjoyed their insightful lectures and were excited to have them present at the retreat.
