The highlight of the event was Prof. Borst’s inspiring valedictory lecture, “For the love of nature,” delivered with her hallmark clarity, passion, and wit, the talk resonated deeply with scholars across disciplines. She encouraged fellow scientists to remain curious and to stay closely attuned to the beauty and intricacy of the natural world.
In addition to Prof. Borst’s lecture, the symposium featured inspiring talks by Prof. Jacques Neefjes, Prof. René van Lier, Dr. Hans van Eenennaam and Dr. Maartje Huijbers. The symposium concluded with a standing ovation as Prof. Marlies Reinders, member of the executive board and dean of the Faculty of Medicine at LUMC, gave a heartfelt speech. She then invited Prof. Ferry Ossendorp to the stage, who had the honor of presenting Prof. Borst with the prestigious Jon J. van Rood Medal. The award honored her visionary leadership, unwavering dedication to mentorship, and groundbreaking contributions to science.
